Established in 2006 under the visionary leadership of the Government of India, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) stands as the premier medical institution in the archipelago. Our integrated campus houses a 450-bed tertiary care teaching hospital and a state-of-the-art medical college.
Our mission is threefold: to deliver comprehensive, affordable healthcare to the residents of the islands; to produce competent, compassionate medical professionals through rigorous undergraduate and postgraduate programs; and to conduct meaningful research addressing the unique health challenges of tropical island populations, including vector-borne diseases, marine toxicology, and remote healthcare delivery.

Inception of ANIIMS
The institute was established by an Act of Parliament, merging the GB Pant Hospital with the new medical college to create an integrated academic health centre.
First MBBS Batch
Admitted the inaugural batch of 100 MBBS students, marking the beginning of medical education in the islands.
NCI Accreditation
Received full accreditation from the National Council of India (NCI) for the MBBS program.
Postgraduate Programs
Launched MD/MS programs in General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology.
New Critical Care Wing
Inaugurated a 50-bed dedicated Critical Care and Trauma Centre with advanced life support systems.
Telemedicine Network
Established a comprehensive telemedicine network connecting all inhabited islands for specialist consultations.
Advanced cardiac care with non-invasive diagnostics, Holter monitoring, echocardiography, and a dedicated cardiac ICU. We perform angiographies and have a tie-up with mainland centres for complex interventions.

The 5.5-year MBBS program (including internship) admits 100 students annually through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The curriculum emphasizes community medicine, tropical diseases, and practical skills for remote settings.
We offer Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) programs in core specialties. Admissions are through NEET-PG. Our PG training includes mandatory rotations in community health centres across the islands.
ANIIMS School of Nursing offers B.Sc. Nursing (4 years), Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (2 years), and General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) programs. Paramedical courses include Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiography, and Operation Theatre Technology.
Comprising General Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, and Endocrinology. Manages a wide spectrum of medical conditions with a 70-bedded unit including 10 ICU beds.

Includes General Surgery, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Urology, Pediatric Surgery, and Plastic Surgery. Performs over 5000 major and minor surgeries annually.

Provides comprehensive women's healthcare, including high-risk pregnancy management, infertility services, gynecologic oncology, and minimally invasive surgeries. Has a separate 40-bed maternity ward and labor rooms.

50-bed department with a 12-bed Level III NICU and 8-bed PICU. Runs immunization clinics, growth monitoring, and manages common childhood illnesses as well as complex referrals.

Specializes in trauma, joint replacements, spine surgery, and sports medicine. Equipped with a C-arm, arthroscopy system, and dedicated physiotherapy unit.

Focuses on public health, epidemiology, and preventive medicine. Conducts field surveys, health camps, and oversees the Rural Health Training Centre at Bambooflat.

ANIIMS is actively engaged in biomedical and public health research with a focus on island-specific health issues. Our research is supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Health Research, and other national agencies.
Our researchers have published over 250 papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals in the last five years.
